16 f**king years: G-stone Recordings anniversary compilation free until the release on the 17th of May

May 3, 2010 Electronic 1 Comment

So it’s been 16 years since Sir Peter and Dr Richard  made the all electronic scene listen to the Vienna sound. During 16 years, Kruder and Dorfmeister, the two maestro have become not less than the main founders and creators of the downtempo music style and  they reached the top with their K&D sessions, a double lps gathering their main remixes and their own productions, a masterpiece. But soon after, they decided to avoid the hype and launched their side projects, Tosca and Peace Orchestra and later Madrid de los Austrias and Voom Voom.

Like their founders, G-stone recordings is more than downtempo, it is a host to plethora of sensibilities, from Dub, Bossa, Funk and Hip Hop to House and nu-Disco.

The compilation gathers new productions and  some of the label classics. 16 years, the time runs fast but the Viennese producers never left us without a beat to step to.

Free download until the 17 of May on the G-stone recordings website

James Pants, a new Stones Throw podcast

Discovered by Peanut Butter Wolf, head of the vibrant and refreshing label Stones Throw, while he was still in high school, since then James Pants has released two lps “Welcome” and “Seven seals” and spread his “fresh beat”, an early-80′s sound with influences from 80’s soul, electro boogie, early rap, new wave, and post-punk disco.

But his music defies simple categorization so you’d better listen to his podcast to get your own idea, a 31-minute collection of his own new work, original songs and remixes.

Alif Tree cooked a nice meal for you: Clockwork out on Compost Records

April 17, 2010 Electronic No Comments

We have been following Alif Tree for a while, a true genius as a sound designer for tv an radio, owner of the Memory music label and a great producer of his own music, at his ease in the NU-Jazz label Compost records.
Alex Altain, the Frenchman behind Alif Tree released a beautiful album Clockwork at the end of 2009, mixing jazz, downtempo, soundtrack, easy listening, dub and blues with guests such as the Memphis guitarist hero Tony Joe White and David Walters.
Clockwork is more song oriented than his previous lps,
This is the kind of album  that gives you the right energy, a record with melodious tracks, tasty like a divine Mediterranean meal  and a good fresh rose wine under the sun of Marseilles.
Alif Tree is a chef himself, he organises some food and music event and his previous acclaimed album French Cuisine was a first proof how tasteful his music is.
Anyway, we looked around and at last we found a free mix, so if Alif Tree doesn’t ring any bell to you, this is a good way to be introduced to his sound universe. This is a cinemix, a mix gathering soundtracks of great movies from the 60′s to now.

Listen and enjoy but we strongly recommend you to buy his album, it will delight your ears while you treat yourself with a good French meal.

Bon appétit!
